For more than three decades, Stephen Drachler has successfully navigated numerous sectors in the world of communications. He served as spokesperson and chief media strategist for the 12-million member United Methodist Church and its worldwide Council of Bishops, focusing much of his energy on crisis planning and response. He was the press secretary and top media strategist for the Pennsylvania General Assembly—a role that included crafting and deploying the majority party’s message on the full range of policy issues. His work included leading a 40-person media team responsible for all aspects of broadcast, print and social media outreach.
Throughout the years, Stephen has been quoted in hundreds of American and international media outlets. His work includes time as a speechwriter and messaging strategist for former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge, and decades working as an award-winning political and investigative journalist and State Capitol bureau chief.
More recently, Stephen was called to Newtown, Connecticut in the aftermath of the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School to help faith and community leaders engage the national media with a message of hope and long-term healing. A former colleague from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives says Stephen Drachler’s gift is “the ability to shape messages that resonate at the deepest level. He’s concerned about the impact of a story long after the news crews leave town.”
